The heat of summer has arrived, bringing happy feet. Free of their wintertime cages, they burrow in the sand, dangle in cooling water, and relax in the heat of the sun. This is flip flop season. |

They arrive in the first half of April without fail, to their nest on a small island in the Damariscotta River. They hover in the thermals and swoop down to snatch a twig for the nest, or a fish from the sea. Osprey Cove will always be their summer home. |

The mother humpback and her calf are nearly inseparable for the first year. Born in the tropics, the calf makes the long journey north, fast at its mother's side. For the first summer in the North Atlantic it learns from its mother, and one day may return with a calf of its own. |
